    Chip:

As you are aware from my earlier email, there are no patches available from the DEWLine. In fact, there are very few physical artefacts of any kind available for display. Sadly, the DEWLine clean-up pretty well eliminated everything.

Just in case you didn’t stumble over the web page for your father’s site, DYE-3, here is the link to what we have.

I’m always looking for additional photos and artefacts so if you have any tucked away, I’d be please have take them off your hands. 😊

Be safe, stay well, live long.

    Bob,

My father was the Executive Officer in the US Army and Chief Engineer for the DYE – 3 site in Greenland in 1958. He was there for little over a year, initially parachuting bulldozers and attempting to land C-130 aircraft on a runway. The initial results tore up a few C-130’s

Subsequently the building was erected on stilts deep into the permafrost and ratcheted up and down to receive ground supplies. The station served into the mid 60’s I believe. I think this was the first arctic station of its kind, but I am not sure.

Polar bears were a constant nuisance.

Is there any way to procure two patches for his memorial. I am also making one for my brother. Please let me know as this would be a tremendous honor to his life served in the Army.

    Thanks,

    Chip Smith
