I was senior Traffic Specialist at Barrow and the bush pilots Wein Alaska were the best . Alaska Airlines, Fairbanks was our main source of contact, supplies and personnel movement. On one occasion I remember having the Aircraft loaded with personnel who had been trying to make connections for their time off from being on I sites for six months. Anyway, the weather socked in and visibility zero. The pilot opened the cockpit window, stuck his head out the window and took off.
I said, thank you Alaska Airlines now no Vacation plans have to be interrupted. Saturday nights at POW Main were a blast.
Bingo, I played piano, we had string players some hand made, singers, Nurses from Barrow Village, Peget Sound and Drake ,
Univ Alaska Research with Dr Max Brewer a good time for all. My 3 years POW Main was an experience for a 20 year USAF
